About us

Studio Mainer, founded in 2021, is an interior design practice led by Founder and Creative Director Alan Mainer. Guided by curiosity, cultural insight, and a belief that great interiors tell meaningful stories, the studio conceives each project as a layered dialogue between place, material, and the people who inhabit it.

With over two decades of experience spanning hospitality, commercial, and residential design, Alan brings a distinctly global perspective shaped by a career in New York and Los Angeles, and more than a decade at Champalimaud Design as a Senior Associate. During that time, he led design on landmark projects including The Dorchester in London, Raffles Singapore, and The Plaza Hotel in New York City—collaborating with international clients to craft some of the world’s most distinctive properties, where context, heritage, and brand are translated into interiors that feel deeply considered.

Originally from Panama and educated in New York City, Alan is also an educator, teaching interior design studio courses at his alma mater, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City.

Today, Studio Mainer develops refined design concepts for residential and commercial environments, shaping interiors that are emotionally resonant and grounded in a strong sense of place. Rooted in research and cultural observation, the studio’s work balances restraint with warmth and precision with craft—creating spaces that are enduring and intimately connected to the rhythms of everyday life.
